WOW!! It has been a long, long time since I have posted to my blog. There have been so many changes in our life since then that it seems almost silly to try to post a regular post now. Last October we really got some strong feelings that it was time for e to stop working and focus full time on being a mom. While this is a great idea and obviously something we have wanted to do for years, we did not have renters in our property that we are still stuck with in Denver and we could not financially pay both mortgages without a rental income. So we waited and prayed and finally in December we got renters (we had worked through an eviction and un-rented property since April). The day we got renters I called to give notice with work. I had been feeling very guilty for the months prior thinking that perhaps the Lord would have liked me to take a leap of faith and quit my job before we got renters, but I just could not bring myself to do it. So in an effort to show that I was willing to be obedient at the first possible moment I got the notice of the signed lease and immediately went to action to plan my "retirement". Because of work obligations my notice was for 4 weeks to allow some projects to get finished up and for some decent transition of all my busy season work.
Being a stay at home mom has been so completely wonderful. I can't believe how much happier I am without the extra stress of trying to fit in a part time work schedule, travelling and everything else. I enjoy time with my kids more, I sing them to sleep for naps (which before was a whirlwind attempt to get them into be quick so I could get to work).
I can't say there are not times when I question whether or not the decision was a great one (usually when the budget money runs out before the budget period ends and we run out of milk), but for the most part there has been no looking back at all. This week I got an email letting me know it was time to renew my CPA license (which expires in May every 2 years). I still need to call them and let them know that I am taking leave and figure out what I have to maintain in order to make sure I don't get in some bad position that requires me to retake the CPA exam some day (ugh lets hope it never comes to that - I may be forced to change vocations). I don't plan on going back to work for a very long time since I am planning on homeschooling my children, but I put a lot of effort into my eduction, I liked what I did, and I would like to someday do it some more (once the kids have flown the coop and we need to start stock piling for retirement).
I have also had a lot of time for organization and changes that I have always thought about doing but never followed through on - but that is something for a whole other post perhaps. For now, here's to more frequent blog posts?? Well lets not get ahead of ourselves - here's to the first one in 8 months! Lets just start with that!
